Where is Shapinsay?

One of the Orkney Islands, Shapinsay is a pleasant 30 minute ferry ride from Kirkwall - the main town on Orkney Mainland. The Orkney group of islands are situated off the North-Eastern tip of Scotland, and can boast an extensive range of archaeological sites, an abundance of bird and sea life, as well as some of the finest Jewelers in Britain. Oh, yes, Orkney is also home to an award winning Whisky distiller, as well as another award winning Real Ale brewery!

Travel to Shapinsay is via the Ro-Ro ferry MV Shapinsay, which is operated by Orkney Ferries.

How do I get to Orkney?

Travel to Orkney is either by ferry from Aberdeen or Scrabster (near Thurso), or by regular flights from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness. Although Orkney is on the same latitude as parts of Norway, it enjoys a mild climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. In the summer months it gets dark around midnight, with the dawn approaching four hours later!!
